Effects of Russell's viper venom on blood coagulation, platelets and fibrinolysis.

چکیده
The effects of Russell’s viper venom on blood coagulation, platelets and fibrinolysis were studied after injecting MLD, 1⁄2 MLD and 1:10 MLD intramuscularly in rabbits. RVV was shown to be a strong coagulant in vivo resulting in thrombocytopenia, prolongation of PT, APTT, Thrombin Time and fall of fibrinogen levels. Process of intravascular clotting was very acute in animals receiving MLD and 1⁄2MLD doses of venom and there was no change in red blood cell morphology. Raised levels of serum FDPs indicated activation of fibrinolysis. Animals receiving 1:10 MLD showed in addition to disturbance of Coagulation; changes in red blood cells morpholgy and more prominant activation of fibrinolysis. These findings showed that RVV in vivo causes consumption coagulopathy and activated fibrinolytic enzyme system. The results of low doses group resemble more to what have been observed in patients of RV bite (JPMA 33:81, 1983).

Aspirin plus tirofiban inhibit the thrombosis induced by Russell’s viper venom
BACKGROUND Thrombosis and coagulopathy are the commonest hematological manifestations of envenomation of Russell's viper venom (RVV). Factor X is activated by a factor X-activating enzyme from Russell's viper venom (RVV-X) to start the coagulation cascade. We established an animal model with local ischemic effects induced by RVV. We tried to treat RVV envenomation with antiplatelets and anticoa...
متن کاملEffects of the venom of the rhinoceros horned viper (Bitis nasicornis) on blood coagulation, platelet aggregation, and fibrinolysis.
The venom of the rhinoceros horned viper (Bitis nasicornis) has been studied in vitro and has been shown to be anticoagulant. This action appeared to be due to an effect on both the extrinsic and intrinsic blood thromboplastin mechanisms. The venom was also proteolytic and in purified caseinolytic systems activated plasminogen, enhanced the activation of plasminogen by streptokinase, and potent...
متن کاملDetection of Venom after Antivenom Is Not Associated with Persistent Coagulopathy in a Prospective Cohort of Russell's Viper (Daboia russelii) Envenomings
BACKGROUND Venom recurrence or persistence in the circulation after antivenom treatment has been documented many times in viper envenoming. However, it has not been associated with clinical recurrence for many snakes, including Russell's viper (Daboia spp.). We compare the recovery of coagulopathy to the recurrence or persistence of venom in patients with Russell's viper envenoming. METHODOLO...
متن کاملBlood Coagulation Induced by Iranian Saw-Scaled Viper (Echis Carinatus) Venom: Identification, Purification and Characterization of a Prothrombin Activator
Objective(s): Echis carinatus is one of the venomous snakes in Iran. The venom of Iranian Echis carinatus is a rich source of protein with various factors affecting the plasma protein and blood coagulation factor. Some of these proteins exhibit types of enzymatic activities. However, other items are proteins with no enzymatic activity. Materials and Methods: In order to study the mechanism ...

venom with serum and platelets resulted in a progressive increase in coagulant activity. Peden & Peacock (1958) found that ox serum was particularly active in potentiating the coagulant activity of the venom, and suggested that the venom acted enzymically on a substrate contained in the serum. The serum factor can be partially purified by adsorption on barium sulphate and elution by 0-2m-citrat...
